The Epic Games Store finally arrives on mobile
- It comes laden with hits such as Fortnite, Fall Guys, and Rocket League Sideswipe
- Fall Guys (the game that inspired smash-hit Stumble Guys) is now on mobile – and an Epic exclusive
It’s been an ongoing fever dream and nightmare for all parties involved, but today, all the confusion and (most of the) argumentative tweets stopped, and the business of providing games to eager players and making money begins.
The Epic Games Store is live on mobile.
And – as everyone had hoped – it comes laden with hits such as Fortnite, Fall Guys, and Rocket League Sideswipe.
The main attraction here, of course will be Fortnite – practically guaranteeing the new store app a huge uptake as the game has been starved from eager mobile players following Epic’s resolute (and self-destructive) stance on not paying Google/Android and Apple/iOS any kind of fees for providing their platform then handling the delivery and payments for their giant global gaming hit.
PLUS in a deal of equal magnitude Fall Guys finally comes to mobile! Yes, the game that inspired the smash hit Stumble Guys (and should have been on mobile ages ago) is finally here and – in a major coup – part of Epic’s store roll-out.
“This is the full Fall Guys experience, as fun as it always has been, but now in the palm of your hands. Play with anyone, anywhere, with crossplay across PC, console, and mobile, complete with cross-progression,” said Epic enthusiastically.
All this and rewards too?
And there’s more. Players who download and install the Epic Games Store will find new challenges and perks inside the three games currently on offer.
They include a brand new Fortnite outfit and matching back bling, pickaxe and wrap; a brand new Fall Guys bean costume; a Fall Guys-themed pickaxe usable in Fortnite; and a gold vehicle trim that can be used immediately in Fortnite and Rocket League Sideswipe.
Plus – coming soon – while Rocket League quests and challenges are visible on all platforms, they can only be completed in-game on a mobile device.
“Players can unlock these in-game rewards after downloading our games from the Epic Games Store on mobile and AltStore PAL on iOS in the European Union,” said Epic.
Yup, not only are Epic’s first three apps available on their own store but on AltStore PAL too – a platform best known for hosting the popular Apple and Nintendo-baiting Delta emulator.
Earlier today – in a surprise move that makes perfect sense – Epic gave AltStore one of its MegaGrants, allowing the app to be offered for free, having previously been forced to charge $1.50 to new users in order to cover Apple’s new Core Technology Fee.
More stores coming soon
“We’re working to bring our games to stores that offer great terms for all developers, and these rewards will also be available when our games are downloaded from other mobile stores through November 2. We also plan to bring our games to Aptoide’s iOS store in the EU and ONE Store on Android,” said Epic.
Thus, recognising the current faff and extra-mileage involved in getting the Epic Games Store onto your chosen platform, Epic has even made ‘how to’ videos to make the job as simple as possible.
For Android…
And for iOS…
We’re certain that both Google and Apple are delighted. Watch this space for updates…
