Monopoly GO! wins the prestigious Game of the Year award at the Mobile Games Awards 2024
- 23 awards were handed out to winners across every games biz category
- All eyes are always on the big prize – Mobile Game of the Year 2024…
Last night in Cologne, Germany – in a welcome respite from all the action at this year’s Gamescom event – PocketGamer.biz played host to the great and the good from across the mobile industry in a star-studded event, tailor-made to reward all the creators, makers, movers and shakers that make mobile happen.
You’ll find a full list of all the 23 winners from the awards here but all eyes are always upon the eventual winner of the Game of the Year award…
And this year that award went to… Monopoly GO! from Scopely.
Go directly to the stage…
Monopoly GO! has had a stellar year. The game got off to a flying start, being the jewel in the crown of Scopely’s acquisition of Savvy Games and soon becoming the biggest casual launch of the last five years following its release in April 2023.
The game went on to coin the crossover promo theme that became a trend for 2023 following its tie-in with Stumble Guys, before notching up its first $1 billion in revenue just seven months after launch.
We went in deep on its LiveOps and monetisation strategies and – following the game’s staggering success – even debated as to whether it was making any money at all…
But perhaps thanks to that elaborate UA spending the game just kept earning, notching up its second billion in 2024, prompting an in-depth analysis of everything the game was – and still is – doing to perfection.
On the game’s first birthday we got its behind the scenes story and one month ago the game hit its incredible $3 billion earnings milestone.
It all adds up to Monopoly GO! being our clear winner but things weren’t quite as cut and dried as that.
Not only, but also…
Special honourable mentions go to Zynga’s Star Wars Hunters, a game that took an incredible six years to reach the market but did so in style upon its release in June this year.
Likewise congratulations have to go to Kuro Games’ Wuthering Waves, a game that’s certainly finding its global stride right now, having earned over $100 million in its first two months, and is set to dominate globally following a stellar performance in the far east.
Huge congrats to all our winners. We can’t wait to see what you come up with next!
